IOC Sweetens the LA28 Deal: $10,000 Grants for Every Athlete who Competes

The International Olympic Committee revealed details of its Fit for the Future Olympian Grants yesterday. The organization will set aside $140 million per Olympiad, beginning with this year’s Winter Olympics, to be used to provide $10,000 grants to every athlete that competes.

Given that there will be 32 quota places for men and 32 for women in the beach sprint competition at LA28, this mean’s that $640,000 of that fund will be set aside for beach sprint. The aim of these grants is to help athletes both with their sporting careers and with the transition to other careers when they stop competing.

The grants will only be given to athletes at the Summer and Winter Olympics, and not at the Youth Olympics. Athletes must also have clean records, with no anti-doping violations, or other breaches of the Olympic Charter, conditions of participation or IOC code of ethics.
