This year’s San Diego Crew Classic launched with a beach sprint clinic and a demonstration race between U.S. national team members Chris Bak and Justin Stevens. In the 1-on-1 mixed double race, Bak lined up with Christine Sutcliffe while Stevens rowed with Hannah Debray. Bak has four gold medals, one silver and one bronze from World Rowing Beach Sprint Finals, but this time it was the duo of Debray and Stevens who took the win.
The organizers of the SDCC plan to combine a full beach sprint competition as part of next year’s regatta.
