The Irish rowing team will use power profile testing completed on the erg to determine which athletes will be invited to its open trials at Lough Rinn on 4 April. The second, obligatory, round of these tests must be submitted by 2 February. (The previous round was not mandatory, and athletes that didn’t submit those tests can still proceed.)
Rowing Ireland advises the four different distance erg tests be completed over a period of four or five days. A suggested protocol being:
- Day 1: 10k, low intensity (not tested)
- Day 2: 100m test; 20 minute rest; 500m test
- Day 3: 6k test
- Day 4: 2k preparation row (not tested)
- Day 5: 2k test
