Wind, Waves and Fires Complicate 2026 Swiss National Championships

A major fire delayed the start of the 2026 Swiss Beach Sprint Championships last Saturday, and once the competition could finally begin, rowers faced challenging wind and waves. The regatta was hosted by the town of Saint-Sulpice, on the northern shore of Lake Geneva.

Of the winners, only Andrin Biberstein in the mixed double has represented Switzerland at the highest level in beach sprint. Biberstein raced in the under-19 men’s solo at the 2025 World Rowing Beach Sprint Finals, though he has now moved up to the senior age category. He also added a silver medal in the men’s solo at Swiss nationals, finishing ahead of Yannick Raschle, who represented Switzerland in the men’s solo at worlds last year.
