The two-double world championship duo of Ander Martín and Esther Martín both won in the solos at Spanish trials in La Línea last weekend. Briz recorded a time of 2:33,57 in the A final to beat Teresa Díaz, who finished in 2:36,98. However both their times in the final were the fastest of any of the women through the entire knockout round.
Martín defeated Miguel Salas in the A final of the men’s solos, flipping the result from the first stage of the Filippi Trophy in March, where Salas had taken gold to leave Martín with silver. In the junior categories, Blanca López beat Lirios Huelamo in the final of the U19 women’s solos and while local Alfredo Mena, from Club Remo de Mar La Línea, defeated Xavier Torres in the U19 men’s race.
However, Briz won’t make a immediate return to the beach sprint team. She is in the middle of an MBA at Oxford University—she won the boat race with Oxford two weeks before trials—and did not complete require erg testing this spring.
