The Chinese national team made its debut at the Filippi Trophy with a dominant performance last weekend. Chinese rowers picked up a total of three golds, two silvers, and one bronze. The only event in which the Chinese team didn’t win a medal was the senior mixed double.
The results highlight the growing importance of this race series, which has begun to attract national teams not just from across Europe but from other continents, too. And they also illustrate that China is likely to be one of the key forces in the run up to beach sprint’s LA28 Olympic debut. Last year’s world championships in Turkey had a relatively muted representation from China because they were held around the same time as the China Games. But this year, the World Rowing Beach Sprint Finals are scheduled for Qingdao, China.
