An article by researchers from the University Hospital of Münster in the Cureus Journal of Medical Science reviews the injury risk of beach sprint compared to classic Olympic rowing. Factors highlighted include being hit by the boat or oars, wave motion or impacts, running on sand and the possibility of pathogens in the water.
The analysis was based on peer-reviewed publications in English and German, as well as official documents published by World Rowing and the German rowing association. However, the authors explain that there is so far little research or data covering beach sprint rowing, and so the conclusions that can be drawn are limited.
