Guin Batten, Chair of World Rowing’s Coastal Rowing Commission, has been given the Medal of Honor in this year’s British Rowing Awards. As an athlete, Batten won a silver medal in the women’s quad at the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games. But her impact on rowing has been even bigger since then. Alongside other roles, Batten has been a key force in the growth of coastal rowing, and was one of the inventors of what would become beach sprint rowing back in 2011.
