European Broadcasting Union Secures Rights to Portimão-Lagoa 2027 Mediterranean Beach Games

The European Broadcasting Union has announced a renewal to its existing partnership with the Mediterranean Games to cover both of the organization’s multi-sport events over the next two years. The agreement includes the Taranto 2026 Mediterranean Games and the Portimão-Lagoa 2027 Mediterranean Games, and will mean that fans across Europe and North Africa will be able to follow the action via public broadcast channels on TV, radio and online.

The Mediterranean Games is open to countries that border the Mediterranean Sea, although with a few key exceptions. Portugal for example, which will host the 2027 Beach Games, first competed in 2018, but does not have a Mediterranean coastline. The Mediterranean Beach Games have featured beach sprint ever since the first ever beach sprint race was held at Pescara 2015.

The Portimão-Lagoa 2027 Games will be held from 11 to 18 September next year, less than a month before Portugal also hosts the Oeiras 2027 World Rowing Beach Sprint Finals. Those world championships will launch the qualification process for the LA28 Olympics Games, and Portimão-Lagoa 2027 could be a key final test for athletes and opportunity to strengthen fan interest.
